Sometimes, finding the answers to such seemingly simple questions only leads to many more questions, or worse, to dead ends. Often, answers can remain void due to lack of data or lie beneath conflicting or contradictory data, or lack clarity and focus due to in-consistency of data across groups.
Organizations world-wide depend on IT applications to run their business. The modern IT infrastructure has become very complex, heterogeneous, multi-vendor and geographically distributed. IT itself needs to monitor its availability and performance. Thus there are several vendors offering software applications to monitor infrastructure layers like networks, data links, servers, operating system, databases and applications.
Until recently, IT infrastructure monitoring and management tools focused on technical users. Gartner defines this model as the Real Time I. RTI has three value propositions, expressed as business goals: reduced costs, achieved by better and more-efficient resource usage, and by reduced system-management (labor) costs; improved service levels, achieved by dynamic adjustments or tuning of IT services; and increased agility, achieved by rapid provisioning of new services or resources and scaling of established services.
